This calculator reads 1:10 as one part concentrate to ten parts water, giving eleven parts in total — the usual reading for cleaning and chemical dilutions. Some fields instead mean one part made up to ten total, which is a stronger mix. Check the product label when the difference matters.
Add the parts to get the total, then split the target volume in proportion. For 1:10 the total is eleven parts, so the concentrate is one eleventh of the volume. To make 32 units that is 2.909 units of concentrate and 29.091 of water.
It is the total parts divided by the concentrate parts. A 1:10 ratio has a dilution factor of eleven, so the mixed solution is one eleventh the strength of the concentrate.
Divide the concentrate parts by the total parts. For 1:10 that is 1 ÷ 11, about 9.1 % concentrate; for 1:4 it is 1 ÷ 5, exactly 20 %.
The ratio itself is unitless — 1:10 is 1:10 in ounces, millilitres or gallons. The only rule is that concentrate and water are measured in the same unit, and the result comes back in whatever unit you used for the total volume.
