Rhombus area

24.00units²

Rhombus area: 24.00 units²
Examples

Half the product of the diagonals: d₁ × d₂ ÷ 2. Diagonals of 6 and 8 give 24. The halving is easy to forget — a square with both diagonals 10 has an area of 50, not 100, because its side is 7.07 and not 10.

Questions

How do you find the area of a rhombus?

Multiply the two diagonals and halve the result. Diagonals of 6 and 8 give 24 square units.

I know the side and the height instead.

Then it works like any parallelogram: base times perpendicular height. The diagonal formula is only easier when the diagonals are what you can measure.

How do I get the side from the diagonals?

The diagonals cross at right angles and bisect each other, so the side is √((d₁÷2)² + (d₂÷2)²). For 6 and 8 that is exactly 5.

Is a square a rhombus?

Yes, the one with equal diagonals. Both diagonals of 10 give an area of 50 and a side of 7.07.
