Questions
How do I calculate a test grade?
Divide the points you earned by the total points available, then multiply by 100. 42 points out of 50 is 42 ÷ 50 × 100 = 84 %, which is a B on the US scale.
What letter grade is my percentage?
On the common US scale, 90 % and above is an A, 80 to 89 % a B, 70 to 79 % a C, 60 to 69 % a D, and below 60 % an F. A score sitting exactly on a band edge earns the higher letter.
Do all schools use the same scale?
No. Many teachers weight questions differently, apply a curve, or use a plus and minus scale. German schools grade from 1 to 6, where 1 is best, so treat this as the US baseline and check your own course rules.
Can I use it for any test or quiz?
Yes. As long as you know the points earned and the points available, it works for any quiz, exam or assignment. Enter the raw points rather than a percentage you already worked out.
What if I got bonus points?
Enter them in the points earned and leave the total at what the test was officially worth. The result then goes above 100 %, which is exactly what a bonus means.
