This calculator estimates the 1-to-5 score for AP Calculus AB as the paper stood up to and including the May 2026 administration. Unlike exams that scale each section as a whole, this one attaches a fixed weight to every raw mark: 1.2 composite points per correct multiple-choice answer, and one composite point per free-response point. The two halves come out even because 45 × 1.2 = 54, exactly the 54 raw points of the six free-response questions at 9 each, so the composite runs from 0 to 108. The defaults work it through: 35 correct questions make 42.0, the 40 free-response points count as themselves, and the composite is 82 — comfortably past the 68 needed for a 5. Rounding happens before the comparison and can decide the grade on its own: one test case, 33 correct questions and 28 free-response points, makes 67.6, rounds to 68 and reaches a 5 the unrounded figure would miss. The weighting is the solid part of this; the ladder is not. 68, 52, 40 and 28 were back-calculated from released scoring worksheets rather than published, and they shift by roughly two to four composite points from year to year. Near a boundary that uncertainty is the larger quantity, so read the result as the region you are in rather than the grade you will get.

The cited page is an archived snapshot from March 2025, because the College Board has since moved AP Calculus AB to 42 multiple-choice questions, effective with the May 2027 exam. This calculator describes the earlier paper, the one the test cases come from.
