What this number means

The working days of a month are the days left once the weekends are taken out, and that count is what schedules, deadlines and pay periods are actually built on. It is not a fixed number. The page opens on March 2026 with a Saturday-Sunday weekend: the month runs 31 days, nine of them fall on a Saturday or a Sunday, and 22 working days remain. Every day of the month is checked one by one against the two days you name, rather than approximated from 52 weeks — that approximation is exactly where such counts go wrong. The weekend is asked for instead of assumed, because a Friday-Saturday weekend is standard across much of the Middle East. What the result does not contain is public holidays. Only weekend days are removed, so in a month with a bank holiday the number actually worked is one or two lower, and which days those are depends on the country and the region. That is the limitation that matters most here: for anything contractual, the holiday calendar has to come off by hand. Across all months the count runs from 20 to 23.

Public holidays are not deducted

Only weekend days are removed, so a month with a bank holiday has one or two fewer working days in practice. Which days count as holidays depends on the country and the region.

You state your own weekend

The Saturday-Sunday weekend is not universal, and a Friday-Saturday weekend is standard across much of the Middle East. Rather than guess from a country, the calculator asks which two days are yours.

A 31-day month has no fixed count

It holds 21, 22 or 23 working days depending on the weekday it starts on. Across all months the range runs from 20 to 23.

Counted day by day

Every day of the month is checked against your two weekend days instead of being approximated from 52 weeks. That approximation is exactly where such counts go wrong.

Commonly misread

Every month has about 22 business days.

The count runs from 20 to 23, depending on the length of the month and the weekday it starts on. February 2026 has 20 and July 2026 has 23.

This number is what will actually be worked.

Public holidays are still in it. In a month with a bank holiday the real figure is one or two lower.

A year is simply 52 weeks of five working days.

2026 has 261 with a Saturday-Sunday weekend — the twelve months in the table add up to that. A leap year starting midweek reaches 262.
