Examples

A 12 ft by 10 ft rectangle is 120 ft². Keep the count for identical areas, or choose different rooms and enter each pair of dimensions in metres or feet plus inches. The calculator adds every section and shows square feet, square yards and square metres.

How it's calculated

ft² = length × width × count; different rooms: sum(length × width), using one unit

  1. StepChoose identical areas or different rectangular rooms.Number of areas=1
  2. StepEnter each dimension; feet and inches have separate fields in the room editor.
  3. ResultRead each room contribution and the total in ft², yd² and m².120.00ft²

Add non-overlapping rectangular sections. The editor supports up to 20 sections; cut-outs, other shapes and prices are outside this model.

What this number means

For a synthetic example, 12 ft 6 in by 10 ft contributes 125 ft² and 8 ft by 9 ft contributes 72 ft²: together 197 ft². Changing a room's display units preserves its measurement. Empty or invalid sections make the total unavailable.

One square foot is exactly 0.09290304 m². The 20-section limit keeps the editor manageable; it is not a building limit.

Questions

Can I use metres?

Yes. Choose different rooms and set a room to metres. Its contribution and the total still show all three area units.

How do I enter feet and inches?

Enter nonnegative feet and inches from 0 up to, but not including, 12. An entry of 12 inches is flagged; enter the additional foot separately.

What about an L-shaped room?

Split it into non-overlapping rectangles and add each section. This editor does not subtract cut-outs or calculate other shapes.
