The one thing to get right is which gallon you mean: a US gallon is 3.785411784 litres, a UK imperial gallon 4.54609 litres, about 20 % larger. Cups, fluid ounces, pints and quarts here are the US liquid ones. Pick your two units and the value passes through litres.

Twelve units all pass through the litre. Each unit stores one number — the litres it is worth — and a conversion multiplies by the factor of the unit you have and divides by the factor of the unit you want. That single pivot is why the internal ratios stay clean whichever route you take: three teaspoons make a tablespoon, two pints a quart and four quarts a US gallon, no matter which unit you started from. A stored rate for every pair would have to be kept in agreement by hand. Volume is the family where the label matters more than the arithmetic, because one word names different amounts. A US gallon is 3.785411784 litres; a UK imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres, roughly 20 % larger, so one US gallon is only 0.832674185 UK gallons. A fuel figure or a container size read in the wrong gallon is out by a fifth. The same split runs through the smaller units, and every one of them here is a US liquid measure. A US liquid pint is 0.473176473 litres, while the US dry pint is 0.5506105 litres, about 16 % more; and the imperial fluid ounce of 28.4130625 ml is not the 29.5735295625 ml used here.
