What this number means

Under § 19 SGB II the German cash benefit has been called Grundsicherungsgeld since 1 July 2026. From January through June 2026 its name was Bürgergeld. Standard rates did not change during 2026: 563 euro for a single adult, 506 euro for each of two partners, 451 euro for a non-partner household member aged 18–24 without their own household, and 357, 390 or 471 euro for a minor child according to age.

The calculator adds those groups and the housing and heating amount you enter. Enter only costs already recognised by the Jobcenter: § 22 applies local reasonableness rules and, since July, limits even during the first-year grace period. For one earner, the § 11b allowance is subtracted from net pay.

It starts at 100 euro and adds percentages of gross pay in bands up to 520, 1,000 and 1,200 euro, or 1,500 euro with a minor child. Minor partners and other adult household types cannot be represented correctly here. Additional needs, child benefit, maintenance, assets, sanctions and multiple earners are excluded. Only a Jobcenter decision is binding.

Two effective dates in 2026

Standard rates remained unchanged from January. The cash benefit changed name from Bürgergeld to Grundsicherungsgeld on 1 July.

Enter recognised housing costs only

Housing costs are assessed individually under § 22 SGB II. Since July 2026, limits can apply even in the first-year grace period; actual rent is not automatically recognised in full.

Limited household estimate

Minor partners and other adult household types are not modelled. Additional needs, other income and proven deductions above the €100 lump sum are excluded.

Questions

Why does the URL still say citizens allowance?

The old address remains for existing links. The benefit was called Bürgergeld through 30 June 2026 and Grundsicherungsgeld from 1 July.

How do I enter children of different ages?

Enter each child in their age band. A five-year-old and a 15-year-old contribute 357 plus 471 euro in standard needs.

How does a 20-year-old child without their own household count?

A non-partner household member aged 18–24 belongs in the separate 451-euro field. At age 18 they leave the minor-child band; they do not automatically become a partner.

How is earned income deducted?

The § 11b allowance starts at 100 euro and rises across gross-pay bands. The allowance is then deducted from the same person's net pay.

Is the estimate a binding entitlement?

No. Additional needs, other income, assets and individual housing limits can change it; the Jobcenter decision controls.
